Dimitar Berbatov, born 30 January 1981 in Blagoevgrad, started with his home-town club Pirin before joining CSKA Sofia in 1998. Bayer Leverkusen signed him in January 2001, and he came on as a substitute in the 2002 Champions League final; in his last three seasons there he scored 59 goals in 100 Bundesliga matches. Tottenham Hotspur bought him in July 2006, where he made the PFA Team of the Year and won the 2008 League Cup.
