All nineteen Kompany items in this selection are Manchester City. There is nothing from Anderlecht, where he made his professional debut in a Champions League qualifier on 30 July 2003, nothing from his spell at Hamburg between 2006 and 2008, and nothing from the 89 caps he won for Belgium in a fifteen-year international career.
Kompany moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2008 wearing 33, and was handed the number 4 for the 2010-11 season after Nedum Onuoha left on loan. The listings follow that exactly: the three 2009-10 home shirts read Kompany #33, and everything later — from a 2009-11 third long-sleeve up to a 2018-19 away shirt — reads #4. A City shirt printed Kompany 33 therefore belongs to his earliest seasons at the club, before the 2011-12 title season in which he took the captaincy and led City to their first league championship in 44 years.
Fifteen of the nineteen are ordinary retail shirts. Three are Player Issue — the closer player cut, here third shirts from 2017-18 and 2018-19 — and one is a Match Issue Champions League home shirt from 2014-15, prepared for a matchday squad rather than put on sale. Home shirts form the largest group, with third and away shirts behind them. Eight entries are described as brand new with tags, and the graded ones run from 5/10 to 10/10.
