Peter Schmeichel

Why so many youth sizes

An unusual share of the United shirts are in youth sizes — several marked Y, plus 13-14 and 15-16 years. Those sell for roughly half what the adult sizes do, around £120 to £150 against £210 to £360. The reason is simple: the wild, oversized Schmeichel-era keeper designs were bought for children in large numbers, and children outgrow shirts before they wear them out, so they survive in better condition than the adult versions.
