Patrick Vieira

Fourteen Arsenal shirts, and two that are not his

Sixteen items match Vieira. Fourteen are Arsenal shirts printed Vieira #4, and they cluster tightly: three from 1996-98, one 1999-01 away, two 2003-05 away and eight from 2004-05, his last season at the club. Vieira came to Arsenal in 1996 for £3.5 million to join Arsène Wenger, captained the side from 2002 until he left in 2005, and won three league titles and four FA Cups there, one of the titles in an unbeaten season.

The two exceptions

A 2014 Andorra Match Issue home shirt numbered 8 and a 2021-22 Sampdoria Match Issue signed home shirt numbered 14 also carry the name. Patrick Vieira played for neither: after Arsenal he went to Juventus, then Inter Milan, then Manchester City, where he retired in 2011. Those two belong to other players with the same surname.

What is not here, and what to expect of the condition

There is no France shirt in this selection, although Vieira made 107 appearances for the national team between 1997 and 2010 and played in the finals of both the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. Nothing from Cannes, Milan, Juventus, Inter or Manchester City appears either. The graded Arsenal shirts run from 5/10 to 10/10, with most between 5 and 8 — these are shirts around twenty years old, and the figure describes wear on fabric and print rather than whether they can be worn. Two entries are children’s sizes, one from 1996-98 and one from 2004-05.
