Vintage Ajax soccer jerseys from Amsterdam – page 10
Ajax has one of the simplest uniforms in soccer, a white jersey with a broad red band down the middle, and it is a favorite with US collectors. Here are Ajax jerseys from the Umbro years of the 1990s to the latest adidas releases, with home, away and third designs.
Americans at Ajax
US fans have had reasons to follow Ajax for years. John O’Brien came through the club’s system and played in midfield for the US at the 2002 World Cup. Sergino Dest, who chose the USMNT over the Netherlands, broke into the Ajax first team before his move to Barcelona. Several Ajax players later ended up in MLS: Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the LA Galaxy and Luis Suarez with Inter Miami. Frank de Boer, the most printed name on this page, went on to coach Atlanta United.
Four times champions of Europe
Ajax won the European Cup three years running from 1971 to 1973 with Johan Cruyff, and added the Champions League in 1995 when a young team beat AC Milan in Vienna. The club left De Meer for a new stadium in 1996, now named the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Umbro in the 90s, adidas since
The Umbro jerseys of the mid and late 1990s are the heart of the vintage collection. That covers the 1995 Champions League season, so those designs sell quickly. adidas took over in 2000 and has made the uniform ever since, which gives a long run of home jerseys, bold away colors and third shirts. Prints include Frank de Boer, Patrick Kluivert, Zlatan and Suarez.
How European sizes compare
adidas jerseys are cut slimmer than US fan gear, and the 90s Umbro shirts are boxier. Check the size on each listing and compare it with a jersey you own.
